Light goes off by itself and cannot be made to come on-sometimes for weeks it will stay off.2001 A4 turbo. The engine oil sensor pressure light/alarm comes on. The dealer cannot find anything. Ideas?
Its probably the oil pressure sensor that is faulty , or it could be a wiring fault, go to an auto electrician, they will test everything, their usually not too expensive.2001 A4 turbo. The engine oil sensor pressure light/alarm comes on. The dealer cannot find anything. Ideas?
if you're throwing an alarm, any alarm, your ecu will generate a code. i have a hard time believing that the dealership is not pulling codes from your ecu that would be able to direct them to the problem, especially if the sensor is faulty. i had my engine coolant temp sensor go out last week, but the good thing is that there is an audi recall on that particular sensor....
but if an alarm comes on, there will be a code....if you want, you should consider spending 71 dollars and get a vag-com cable and software......that way you'll be able to diagnose these issues on your own....and not pay a dealer 70+ bucks to do a 30 second scan of your car.....
but it could be a sludge issue like the guy above me said...follow his advice to see if there's any sludge build up....that would be the first/easiest step to take to diagnose....
1.8t's are notorious sludge engines. this sounds like it could be the start of a sludge problem. the dealer, if finding no fault codes and no problems with the sensor, should take the valve cover off and check for sludge buildup and abnormal cam wear. a good way to check yourself is to just remove the oil filler cap and look at the bottom. if it is caked up with oil and not smooth, you mostly likely will need it cleaned. they have a procedure for this and i would not wait until your engine locks up.
It is hard even for the dealer if the fault is sporadic. I would have them check the oil pressure with a gauge when it's fully hot, as these engines have had issues with sludge buildup which blocks the oil pickup. Be sure to have regular changes, with synthetic oil, correct filter- larger than 1st used, and at the next oil change have them use a hot oil flush additive to the oil prior to dumping the old oil.
