maybe scam.
call the embassy there and ask them...

If it isn't an internationally reputable company, be very careful.
Do not even reply to the ad.
Even if the ad was legitimate, many people (including Westerners) who work in the Nigerian oil sector have been targets for kidnappings in recent years.
did u apply for the job you cannot get a job which you did not apply for. i cant say for sure but in all probability its a scam.

Be very careful with phoning companies, as you could get charged a great deal for the call and no job at the end of it.
If you have serious doubts about this company, then leave well alone.

I have been offered a job in Ste Ascon oil Benin in Mechanical Engineer. How can I check its authenticity ?
One day I got an email from some who asked me to send my resume for a good job in Benin. I did so. Then, I got a questionaire to send replies. I again did so. Next day I was informed that I have been offered a job in an oil company (Ste Ascon oil) AND ASKED ME TO SEND $ 1450 FOR PROCESSING FEE RELATING TO WORK / VISA PERMIT. Is it correct ? Can some one reply.I have been offered a job in Ste Ascon oil Benin in Mechanical Engineer. How can I check its authenticity ?
It's a scam. there have been many questions here at Yahoo on similar emails. It's just another way to get you to send money. There is no job, there never was. When a company is willing to pay you a huge salary, but somehow won't pay for the visa fees, clearly it's a scam.I have been offered a job in Ste Ascon oil Benin in Mechanical Engineer. you know it is a scam you never applied for the job I ask myself is it any wonder we get scams like this if ppl are so gullible to think the information is in fact kosher. if ppl stpped replying and even worse falling such obvious scams we will all continue to recieve them every one of these so called offers of a job are a load of bollocks and as such should be scratched
If you did not apply, and if they want money, it is a scam
I am a senior staff in Ascon Oil Company Limited. Ascon Oil is located in Nigeria, with Head office in Lagos and branch offices in various states in Nigeria. If this person who is demanding money from you is talking about Ascon Oil Company Limited in Nigeria, that person is fake and he is not a representative of our company. Job are only offered through our Human Resources Department (H R) or contracted to another HR company by them. So please ignore this person, because Ascon Oil will not request for money from anybody before giving you a job. I got this information through Google alert and we get a lot of fake and strange things like this all the time. Be careful with your money.
Sounds a little fishy to me. Most companies would pay the money themselves if they wanted to hire a foreigner.

Can anyone tell me, being a Chemical Engineer, whether Indian Oil Corporation is worth to Join as a fresher ??
I have come to know that even though it offers package around 5.65 lac per annum but you merely get 20K per month and posted in the most secluded part of India.
please help......and tell me other good organisations to start my career. Can anyone tell me, being a Chemical Engineer, whether Indian Oil Corporation is worth to Join as a fresher ??
You get the details of the package before hand. It is not wrong to ask for the same before joining. It has become a practise to show high salary package but turn out to be useless as they calculate in terms of the cost to the company. For a fresher, if you get a chance to join there but see the prospects. If there is any bond, think before you leap. Otherwise you do not ask individuals, you try yourself only. You may be misled by others also.
Being a public sector, I hope, it is okay. Can anyone tell me, being a Chemical Engineer, whether Indian Oil Corporation is worth to Join as a fresher ??
Indian Oil Corporation is quite good for a fresher. work for them, if they employ you, gather sufficient experience and then look for a better and higher paying job

Why cant the army corp of engineers drill & refine oil for use by the military, fed, state and local govt use?
By doing so it would greatly cut demand in this country on over seas oil and/or the (big bad) oil companies that our leaders speak about. Now that our dependantcy on oil has become a matter of ';national security';, I see no reason why the military should not drill and refine domestic oil. Then fed, state, and local governments could get the gas ';at cost';. This would have a two fold result. 1) Decrease US demand for overseas oil, thus lowering price at the pump. 2) Cut into the windfall profits of the oil companies. I say to our Govt that if you dont like how much money the oil companies are making... then go get your own oil.Why cant the army corp of engineers drill %26amp; refine oil for use by the military, fed, state and local govt use?
They'll never be able to do that as long as so many in Congress are playing footsie with environmental lobbying groups. Why cant the army corp of engineers drill %26amp; refine oil for use by the military, fed, state and local govt use?
I suppose they could if they got the equipment, the knowledge to do so, and the man power. It's not like you just go put a hole in the ground and up pops oil. Also it wqould mean the creation of an entirely new government agency, a completely new government budget.
gas under Hugo Chavez is .17 cents a gallon Yes - you heard that right 17 cents a gallon.
I think you have an excellent idea.
One of the most thoughtful posts I have read concerning oil usage in this counrty, bravo to you.
You agree with Hugo Chavez! Congrats!
That is far too radical for our current political system to adopt.
sure they could but the Dems wouldn't allow it, I am certain!

Hydraulic oil flow rate question!? Engineers help!?
Oil flows at a velocity of 8 ft/s through a conduit with an inner diameter of 0.5 in. Determine the flow rate in GPM.
Hydraulic oil flow rate question!? Engineers help!?
volume flow = velocity x cross-sectional area
cross-sectional area = pi x diameter / 4
1 cubic foot = 7.48051945 US gallons
N.B your answer will be in GPS so multiply by 60 to get GPM
Hope this helps!Hydraulic oil flow rate question!? Engineers help!?
Q (Cu. Ft./ sec.) = Vel. x Area
.5 '; = .04166667'
Area = 3.14159 x .04166667^2/4 = .0013635 Sq. Ft.
Q = 8 Ft/sec x .0013635 Sq. Ft = .010908 Cu. Ft /sec
.010908 Cu. Ft./sec x 448.831 = 4.896 GPM

An engineer need some electromagnetic waves to find cracks in the joints of an oil pipline.?
What kind of electromagnetic wave would we use?An engineer need some electromagnetic waves to find cracks in the joints of an oil pipline.?
A process called radiography could be used effectively.
History
Radiography started in 1895 with the discovery of X-rays (later also called R枚ntgen rays after the man who first described their properties in rigorous detail), a type of electromagnetic radiation. Soon after the discovery of X-rays, radioactivity was discovered. By using radioactive sources such as radium, far higher photon energies could be obtained than those which can be obtained from normal X-ray machines. Soon these found various applications, from helping to find shoes that fit, more lasting medical uses and the examination of non-living objects. X-rays and gamma-rays were put to use very early, before the dangers of ionising radiation were discovered. After World War II new isotopes such as Cs-137, iridium-192 and cobalt-60 were made available for use in industrial radiography, hence the use of radium and radon decreased.
[edit] Uses
[edit] Inspection of welds
The beam of radiation must be directed to the middle of the section under examination and must be normal to the material surface at that point, except in special techniques where known defects are best revealed by a different alignment of the beam. The length of weld under examination for each exposure shall be such that the thickness of the material at the diagnostic extremities, measured in the direction of the incident beam, does not exceed the actual thickness at that point by more than 6%. The specimen to be inspected is placed between the source of radiation and the detecting device, usually the film in a light tight holder or cassette, and the radiation is allowed to penetrate the part for the required length of time to be adequately recorded.
The result is a two-dimensional projection of the part onto the film, producing a latent image of varying densities according to the amount of radiation reaching each area. It is known as a radiograph, as distinct from a photograph produced by light. Because film is cumulative in its response (the exposure increasing as it absorbs more radiation), relatively weak radiation can be detected by prolonging the exposure until the film can record an image that will be visible after development. The radiograph is examined as a negative, without printing as a positive as in photography. This is because, in printing, some of the detail is always lost and no useful purpose is served.
Before commencing a radiographic examination, it is always advisable to examine the component with one's own eyes, to eliminate any possible external defects. If the surface of a weld is too irregular, it may be desirable to grind it to obtain a smooth finish, but this is likely to be limited to those cases in which the surface irregularities (which will be visible on the radiograph) may make detecting internal defects difficult.
After this visual examination, the operator will have a clear idea of the possibilities of access to the two faces of the weld, which is important both for the setting up of the equipment and for the choice of the most appropriate technique.
X-ray sources
A high energy X-ray machine can be used. It is often important to use a high accelerating voltage to provide the electrons with a very high energy. This is because in a braking radiation source the maximum photon energy is determined by the energy of the charged particles. A recent development is the betatron, which is a device similar to a cyclotron that acts as a very intense photon source.

Genetically Engineered Foods:Canola oil?
Does anyone know why canola oil was modified?
need it for school :) thanksGenetically Engineered Foods:Canola oil?
It's not the actual oil that was modified, it was the rapeseed plant from which canola oil is made that was modified.
Plants are genetically modified so that they are more productive, disease resistant and possibly drought tolerant. There are lots of qualities and characteristics that plant breeders can select for, and reinforce in successive generations of plants.
In the case of the rapeseed plant, it was modified in the early '90's to be herbicide resistant. This allows farmers to liberally spray their fields with chemicals that are harmful to weeds without killing off their crop of canola oil-producing rapeseed.
There was a large court case a few years ago with the Monsanto corporation regarding their ';Round Up'; ready rapeseed strain that had invaded a neighboring farm -- it was settled for lots of money.
I do recommend looking for sources other than the Wikipedia though.

Do I really need an engine oil change every three thousand mi.? Honda engineers do not say so.?
Are we being told the truth about oil changes for the auto?Do I really need an engine oil change every three thousand mi.? Honda engineers do not say so.?
Mine leaks out before you have to change it as well, but with my last car I used a good synthetic or blended oil and a Fram oil filter that stated it was a long-life filter and didn't need to be changed every 3000 miles and did fine (totaled in a wreck, not engine problems is why I don't have it anymore). How about if it leaks out before 3000 miles, do you still have to change the filter? lolDo I really need an engine oil change every three thousand mi.? Honda engineers do not say so.?
You're supose to CHANGE the oil? I just keep adding to it as it leaks out.
I was told by my mechanic that it could go over that point depending on the type of driving that you do. Driving only in town, where you have to start and stop all the time is rougher on the engine than all highway driving so it would break down the oil faster and then yes you need to change it more. So depending on how you drive, and what year your car is, plus the type or brand of oil used will all have an effect on this. But they also told me not to ever go over 5000 on it. But that was for only highway driving. You should find a mechanic that you really trust and ask them what their opinion is.
Yes. It is crucial to gas mileage. It also helps reduce problems, creates a cleaner exhaust, and it is crucial to your eco-system, since it keeps air cleaner
It depends on how long you want your engine to last. Do you NEED to change it every 3000 miles, no. Should you? That's up to you.
I change mine every 3500 mi and have never had an engine problem. Synthetic oil can be changed every 10,000 mi.
if you use a good oil you can go a little longer,,but you need to use a good oil,,like a synthetic oil,,and you can go about 5 thousand,,but oil changes are important to the life of your vehicle,,if your rich, and don't Care ,,then run it till it gets 20 thousand on a oil change maybe then you, will need a new motor,,this is the difference between changing it,,or not,,hope this help,s.
It's best to change the oil in your car at 3,000 miles because most engines have alluminum parts that wear out faster than stanless steel parts the newer the car is the more alluminum is used to build the car the older cars have iron and steel engine parts that's why back 25 years ago the milage suggested to change oil was 7,500!
that depends on your driving habits. here is my belief, if you allow your car to come up to normal operating temperatures and under normal driving conditons you can go to a comfy 7500 miles. if you get stuck in long deration traffic then 3000 is a better idea. if you do alot of highway driving 7500 is a safe choice. its better oil now then back in the 70's and 80's and damn if we just added oil, changed the filter every now and then. once again my belief and your driving habits. switch to a true synthetic oil and you change the filter every 5000 and top of then change the oil about every 50,000 but the expense of the synthetic oil my not justify it and you have to have at least 30,000 before you can run true syntheticpaper mask

Hi. I'm considering marrying an engineer for an oil company. What would I be letting myself in for?
Well, its like what it says above, except that he's actually a couple of interviews away from being one. I just want to know what that life is like. He says that the companies told him that they are very considerate about letting employees stay fixed when they have families, but others I've spoken to say this just isn't what happens. Also, they said that what would happen would be him going out to the oil rigs for 1 or 2 weeks, and coming back for 1 or 2 etc. What's this like, both before and after kids?Hi. I'm considering marrying an engineer for an oil company. What would I be letting myself in for?
I am married to a rig truck driver and my two grown sons are drillers. They spend weeks at a time on the road working on rig sites. It is just like being married to anyone who is employed at a job where they have to travel alot. Whether they are salesmen, long haul truck drivers or military people the time away doesn't make things easy. As the person who is at home you have to take alot of the responsibility for the maintaince of the home and keeping yourself occupied on yourself. Trust some times can be a big issue. Riggers are a different type of people too. It can be lot rougher of a life style out there. Guys tend to harden up mentally when they aren't in the presence of their spouses much. IT takes them a while to come down from the mind set they get into out there when they come home. Email me if you want to talk about this more......Hi. I'm considering marrying an engineer for an oil company. What would I be letting myself in for?
Yeah, I understand that they go away quite a lot. Some stay on the rig for a couple of weeks and back home for a couple of weeks as you said.
I don'k know if having a family makes any difference.
Good luck.xx
when hillary clinton is president everybody will be switching over to battery powered cars and so your husband will be out of a job.
Do you love this man? I am getting the impression that you do not. Just a word of advice, do not marry if you do not love him. Life will be miserable.
HI THERE
DO NOT KNOW IF ANYONE IN YAHOO HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT, BUT I just think you should research about couples in oil companies get some feedback. I think people get married for love are you in love?
If so would it matter how you both spend your future ?
talk it out the both of you think and react after you come to some conclusion .

Lonely days and lonely nights.
he's gonna be away for long periods of time then he will seeing women in some of these areas because he'll be stressed and ur not there, he'll have all the money he needs. but some guys aren't like that, so it can work for some people.
it is true..
they leave for weeks .. and sometimes months at a time
but who cares if u love him???
what are u about???
all engineers.. are a different breed.. yes..
I didn't believe it until I was married to one for 12 yrs.. and I couldn't believe it..
I hope u have been with him 2 or 3 years.. and really no him..
think twice about this???
not just the job but the person.... ?
good luck..
lots of gas and oil...hahaha
Dunno.
What's he like - regardless of what he does?
Engineers can be very stoic, conservative and if you don't keep him laughing very serious otherwise he could provide an excellent life. As far as the gas and oil industry goes you could move frequently or get sent to the far reaches of the earth unless he excells and gets an executive position, of course that will take some work.
MONEY !!!! ENGINEERS MAKE BIG BUCKS.....YOU AINT EVEN MARRIED YET AND YOUR WORRIED ABOUT HIM WORKING!
stability and money
If you are basing yhour marriage to some one on their job, you should just do him the favor of leaving him so he can find someone who really loves him, not his income.
lots of gass for your car
Long hours and long trips away, but then long breaks at home! if you are independent and can take care of things at home while he's away, and if you are strong as a couple, it can be a lot of fun! (Believe me, a lot of married couples can use a break now and then. You just drive each other crazy after a while!)

Oil and gas engineer?
how much would one be paid is they are a oil and gas engineer , would they be up around the same money as a mining engineer , would there be lots of chances for jobs and travelOil and gas engineer?
As a petroleum engineer you could expect to make anywhere around $66,970 to $111,910 depending where you work. As a Mining engineer you could expect to make somewhere from $56,420 to $88,080 depending on where you live. Please take into account that these all averages and it is possible to make a lot more or a bit less than what I have listed. Assuming that you live in the US, you would probably travel about the same as you would if you were to pursue a mining degree. As for jobs it would depend on how well you did in school, your experience, ect. Although you have to take into account that you would probably need to get some advanced degrees for either subject to be making the big bucks and traveling a lot. In fact my friend's dad has a PhD in Petroleum engineering and 3 other subjects and he travels a lot and is pretty well off.Oil and gas engineer?
I am a low level engineer on the North Slope in Alaska.
Level IIII civil engineer and I make about 80,000 a year.

The proess to make oil is very simple so why are engineers unable to do this simple task?
The energy has to come from somewhere. The proess to make oil is very simple so why are engineers unable to do this simple task?
Is it ? Would you please enlighten us Scientists and Engineers about this simple task which took Mother Nature 100 Million years ?The proess to make oil is very simple so why are engineers unable to do this simple task?
Im sure they are working on it. It has probably been done already, the problem is the cost. It costs more to make it than it does to pump and refine the already made crude.
The cost of the process is definitely coming down, and for certain grades is already competitive with pumped petroleum, at least at the $70 per barrel level. The biggest disadvantage is that artificially made oils just don't offer the range of functions that natural petroleum does-fuel, plastic feedstock and so on, For further info, I'm copying the answer to your previously, related question:
Actually, this is a very good question. I've read several times about a pilot plant operation that renders organic waste into combustible oils and ash. The pilot plant was set up to use the many tons of turkey waste that had been going to a landfill every day. The process is a high temperature, high pressure reduction of the waste, with less than 25% of the recovered oils being used as process heat and for electricity generation. In other words, a self sustaining process, with a high oil yield and a huge volume reduction in landfill able waste. The last article I read was about a year ago, so I don't know if the process has progressed beyond the pilot plant stage or whether significant difficulties were encountered.
The only source I'm sure of is Popular Science, But I think I read about it in Scientific American as well

Does anybody remember who the chief Engineer was on the Exxon Valdez when the oil spill happened?
The spill occured in the '80'sDoes anybody remember who the chief Engineer was on the Exxon Valdez when the oil spill happened?
The oil tanker Exxon Valdez departed the Valdez oil terminal, Alaska at 9:12 pm March 23, 1989 with 53 million gallons of crude oil bound for California. A harbour pilot guided the ship through the Valdez Narrows before departing the ship and returning control to Captain Joseph Hazelwood, the ship's master. The ship maneuvered out of the shipping lane to avoid icebergs. Following the maneuver and sometime after 11 pm, Hazelwood departed the wheel house and was in his stateroom at the time of the accident. He left Third Mate Gregory Cousins in charge of the wheel house and Able Seaman Robert Kagan at the helm with instructions to return to the shipping lane at a prearranged point. Exxon Valdez failed to return to the shipping lanes and struck Bligh Reef at around 12:04 am March 24th, 1989. The accident resulted in the discharge of approximately 11 million gallons of oil, 20% of the cargo, into Prince William Sound.[1]Does anybody remember who the chief Engineer was on the Exxon Valdez when the oil spill happened?

What will drilling engineer do if oil is depleted?
If oil depletes, we'll drill for more natural gas. If gas depletes also, we'll start drilling for water. Clean water sources are getting harder to come by you know. And if we run out of water, we'll be drilling for.....
oh wait, I'll be dead by the time happens. So I don't really care. :DWhat will drilling engineer do if oil is depleted?
By sayin depleted if you mean drilling machine is empty then simply you should prepare new cutting fluid (oil) and add to machine. If this not the answer to your question could you please clarify it a bit.

What do the engineers replace drilled oil with?
Water, gas or most recently CO2. Sometimes it is not necessary to pump water or gas, it permeates naturally. Sometimes the oil sands just compacts. What do the engineers replace drilled oil with?
they fill it with the b-s that comes out of george bush's mouth. What do the engineers replace drilled oil with?
Actually , i have read some info that says a few oil fields are replenishing themselves! It's called ';Abiotic'; or ';Ambiotic'; oil, and somewhere in the gulf of Mexico where we have drillings. Can you imagine? The claim is that there is NO shortage.
Sometimes nothing! Sometimes air, gas, chemicals or water in order to either pressurise the well more or move oil from one chamber to another.
i am not exactly sure just what you mean, but, i have heard that for years the u.s.a. is filling old empty wells from oil we buy from overseas. most of them remain as huge storage tanks, so to speak, if we ever have another disaster such as a world war, we would not be caught short on oil. i hope this is what you were looking for today.paper mask

mrs.lilly johnson who is assistant coordinator in your company.who help me lot.my question is this type of appointment is approved by your company?I got offer from sub sea oil company limited as a assistant engineer is is true?
Dear Sir
There is no longer a Miss Lilly Johnson at this address. She was dismissed for unlady like conduct involving the photo-copier, a mop handle and that nice young chap on his work experience program.
She is therefore no longer an assistant anything, but we can say that she, along with the mop handle and YTS chap did look remarkably co-ordinated on the CCTV footage we all saw.
Your application as assistant engineer will be forwarded to the photo-copy machine company, as we believe that there is some liquid damage to the internal components, and they may need help getting it out.
We wish you well in your career.

I wouldn't worry about it for the rest of this century. However, there's geothermal energy, which seems to be a burgeoning field.

Our family lives in Qatar for the past 4 years and Qatar is the safest place we ever experienced after spending years in Florida and France. It is very safe for kids and women, you do not have to worry about burglary, rape, car hijacking, or children kidnapping! Ladies can have a regular life meaning having a job, driving a car and not having to wear hijab (scarf) or abaya (black dress covering all body) like in Saudi Arabia! This shows you already how open minded the country is compared to other parts of the Middle East (we have a lady minister of education for the past 2 years). You need to sign your contract overseas (best deals because you usually get a nice salary, + housing, + car, + insurance) and you also get a tax break of $ 80 K with the IRS if you are US citizen. If you come here and look for a ';local hire'; position it will be more difficult, and the deals are not good. You need to make sure housing is fully paid by company whatever your require (appartment, villa, etc.) Rentals have doubled and tripled in the past 2 years and you can not find a villa under 15,000 QR (4,000 $ US). Inflation has been very high in the past 2 years (officially 12 % but it is over 20 %).
There is an amazing Education City shaping up and several US colleges have already moved in (Texas A%26amp;M, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, VCU, Weill Cornell with a teaching hospital of 350 beds to open soon).
You have to know that we are over 830,000 inhabitants in this country and 3/4 are expatriates (majority coming from south Asia) and about 200,000 Qataris. Right now they try to have more Qataris get good positions and have more Qatari women in the working force, but there is still space for people with good education and experience. Engineering and medical field will always be in need.
To find a job over here, you have to apply online and check different sites. I will list you a bunch of sites to visit for more informations and to check job vacancies.

Are there any women working on oil rigs? im an engineer but im scared its too male dominated?
Engineers (male or female) basically don't work on oil rigs.
There are some engineers that have assignments on offshore platforms as maintenance engineers or as supervisors but primarily they work from an office environment. There are also some onshore field assignments that engineers have again working in similar capacities as those offshore.
There are some engineers that work field assignments doing construction and modifications to various facilities.
If you work for a major company you will find that female engineers are treated just the same an males and can do quite well if they are competent. That is what really dominates in the oil field...competence.
Are there any women working on oil rigs? im an engineer but im scared its too male dominated?
Probably there are women who work in oil rig but they don't stay there for long. They just maybe work as liaison officers or personal aide of the boss when visiting the rig. An hour or two will be maybe the longest duration of their stay. Working in offshore oil rigs is very dangerous and only skilled male staff are allowed to work and stay.

Better Career Opition- as in salary. Building Surveyor or a Drilling Engineer (oil & gas)?
Going to college soon, and i can't deciede between the two courses, which regard the two careers i mentioned. Thanks.Better Career Opition- as in salary. Building Surveyor or a Drilling Engineer (oil %26amp; gas)?
I think Drilling engineer.
But do you mean like you would be working on the oil brigs and all that?
^That entails that you would be away from home for a long time (like 6 weeks away, 6 weeks back)
and all that.
However, I still think anything to do with oil would pay more, as it is alot more dangerous.

What is the chance of getting a job as a junior mechanical engineer in an oil company in calgary?
I would say pretty good considering the following criteria:
1) Your GPA is above a 3.0
2) They're hiring at the time
3) You don't say anything stupid in the interview

I saw the other guy using oil in polished edges of engineered stone, is that the right thing to do?
Doesn't sound right to me........I would be thinking water. What did it look like when he finished........sounds like it would be stained....water should be fine. Oil is ok for rubbing out wood finishes such as lacquer.

If they are offering you a job, ask yourself, Have you applied for a job, or, been interviewed??

They could be trying to empty your Bank Account, be careful.

Yes, but don't make it too wet.Can you mop an engineered oiled wood floor?

Do Drilling engineers get laid off or is it a fairly secure position in the oil field?
I think it would matter where you are located or willing to locate... there are certain parts of the globe where work in this area is pretty steady... I know there is lots of opportunity in the North Sea, for instance. It would also depend if you are a contract employee or a direct employee of a company.
Drilling Engineer Occupational Outlook
The number of jobs for petroleum engineers is declining in the U.S., but U.S. firms will be hiring for work in other countries and projections indicate that there will be a small number of graduates in this field, so prospects are good. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov), salaries range from $57,960 to over $145,000, with the median being about $98,000. The starting salary in 2007 for new petroleum engineering graduates was around $60,000. (Source: National Association of Colleges and Employers)

I am a sales/ planning engineer in the oil and gas ind how can Primavera software help me advance in my career
I am not sure how it helps in sales, maybe in the organization of sales it could help. Most software companies offer free trials for these types of packages try out a trial and see if it helps you organize enough to justify the cost.

What's the famous 'jelly' that engineers use to remove the oil and grease from their hands?
I remember it came in a small-ish tub with a plastic screw-on lid, it was very thick, almost like jelly, (Jello for all you Americans out there reading this), but it wasn't even wobbly,.. it was green as well if I remember correctly, sometimes purple. Any ideas what it was called? What's the famous 'jelly' that engineers use to remove the oil and grease from their hands?
Swarfega, correct spelling. What's the famous 'jelly' that engineers use to remove the oil and grease from their hands?
Swartzfegger.
swarfega, its still available in a red jar with white lid.
Swarfega, I love the smell of that stuff.
yup swarfega and there are other hand cleaners around these days which have ground apricot stones in them like rynol that work just as good.
swarfega..........thats not the right spelling but thats what it sounds like...swarfeegar or something
Was it Swarfega or something similar?
Swarfega. Still around, I believe.
Goop
Swarfega
Simple Green is the green kind. I don't remember what the purple stuff is called. There is also gojo--a lemon version from another company.
Swarfega. The original one is green and smells kinda gross, but now they make an orange one too. Works just as well and smells a hell of a lot nicer! And it moisturises too :D
It comes in many colours but the most common named brand is called 'Swarfega'. A cheaper alternative to this is washing powder and washing up liquid. The granules in the powder act as a scrub.
it comes in a orange tub and its called gojo
';Goop';. Final answer.
It is swarfega, and one of the best on the market. As you stated it is green, and can still be obtained. It has a hint of grit in it,which is for getting right into the skin.
Swarfega. Great stuff. Apparently there's something in it that can get you addicted to it if you eat enough of it. But you'd probably die before that happened.paper mask

What course do I need to study to be an engineer in oil and gas industry?
Chemical and Process Engineering
For more information
www.icheme.orgWhat course do I need to study to be an engineer in oil and gas industry?
You can study various types of engineering subjects to be employed by the oil and gas industry. I'd recommend mechanical, petrol, or chemical engineering since they are directly related to the industry you want to be involved in. However, other types of engineers can also find jobs in BP, Shell, etc. For example; an electronics engineer could design an electronic fire and explosion safety system for offshore platforms and earn a lot of money doing that. You must not forget that big companies generally require people from different academic backgrounds. (They will even need a food-process engineer)What course do I need to study to be an engineer in oil and gas industry?
I believe the University of Wyoming has an actual petroleum engineering cirriculla.
Ask Shell or BP what qualies their looking for!!!!
But if your going to do a degree you should be clever enough to know that for yourself!
Ignore the geology answer unless you want to be a geologist. A degree in mechanical engineering is sufficient to get onto a trainee engineer course - at the moment, there is a real shortage of well engineers/drilling engineer - if I were you, that would be the discipline I'd aim for. If you can get a position as a mudlogger offshore, that can be a good opening into well engineering. I don't know where you're located, but a move to Aberdeen would be a good start!
Check with your counselor. That's why they are there.
The oil and gas industry employs engineers from many disciplines.
eg
Mechanical engineers
Instrument engineers (electrical/digital engineering)
Process engineers (chemical engineering)
Electrical engineers
Civil engineers
Project engineers (any discipline)
Take your pick
Peter T has given the best and most accurate answer. In addition to having all kinds of engineers, the oil and gas industry tends to have their engineers deal with all kinds of tasks related to the various disciplines. You may be a mechanical engineeer but your assignment may require you to do some civil, chemical or electrical engineering.
In general petroleum engineers can be limited by their degree if they ever need or want to change industries. Also their focus is usually ';down hole'; only.
I guess it would either be Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering depending on what you want to specialise in. If you wish to design the structures of the rigs then I reckon Civil but if you want to be involved in the machinery then I would say Meachanical. Talk to Shell, BP, Texaco etc for some advice.
Also do you want to be an Engineer or a technician (Engineer is more theoretical and problem solving, technician is hands on) as these would require different types of courses (Engineers need degrees).
In the oil and gas industry there are mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, instrumentation engineers, marine engineers, civil engineers, chemical engineers, petroleum engineers and process engineers, together with other specialist disciplines like mud engineers, drilling engineers and certainly more that I have not named. Generally however Mechanical , Electrical, Civil and Chemical are the basic skills needed for this industry and the others are people of these categories who have further developed and refined their skills. Geologists are not normally categorized as engineers.
chemical engineering.
most of the work is to do with refining oil
Geology has to be your major. Personally I think they're just a bunch of fossil heads.
An oil and gas engineering course? Next!
ye the answer is Chemical engineering ... i'm in the same boat, and have just applied to study that at university.

Oil and gas engineering?
Hi, can anyone answers any of my questions. Like does anyone know how hard is it to get a job after you finished your engineering degree even if you don't get a 2:1 or first class degree.
Also are the salaries tax free considering you'll be oversees most of the time.
Lastly what type of salary would you be expecting if after 10 years experience on a contract basis.
Any info is greatly appreciatedOil and gas engineering?
Look up BP, their website is good. Also the 'oilandgas' website which you'll have to google. There is forum where many such questions are answered. Hope this helps!Oil and gas engineering?
Salaries were/are tax free providing you work/live there for a certain amount of time a year (majority of it)... have to inform Inland Revenue that you are going also in advance. A tough hard life imo, whether in Saudi or some other barren oil place... but if you are so intent on money.. can help boost your financial situation a lot if you put a few years in and save.

How is Oil and Gas Industry related to Electrical engineering jobs?
I don't understand how oil and gas industry has anything to do with electrical engineering jobs??
Am I not seeing this because currently I am working as a electronics engineer ?
This is how I am thinking about this - Oil and gas industry , digs up oil , provides it to our cars and trucks so they can run. Now I don't understand how or where ';Electrical engineers'; come into play into this ?? Please make me understand. I want to know.
P.s: I am an entry level electronics engineer, with a degree in ';Electrical engineering'; , Currently I am located in Houston, texas. How is Oil and Gas Industry related to Electrical engineering jobs?
A great deal of electric power is used in extracting oil and gas from the ground, transporting it through pipelines, separating and refining the crude products and distributing the products. Electrical engineers design the required electrical equipment and the associated electric power distribution and control systems. In some situations, electric power must be generated on site rather than purchased from electric utility companies. In addition, electrical engineers are involved in the process instrumentation and control system design. The process control includes both computer systems and specialized electronic equipment.

Oil and gas engineering competition?
Hi, my friend is looking into pursuing a career in the oil and gas field but is a bit sceptical about the competition for a job at the end of the degree. I would appreciate if anyone could give me a bit more info on this as I have heard of people waiting as much as 4 years for a job in this field but on the other hand have heard that these jobs are in demand.Oil and gas engineering competition?
You've heard wrong. The current demand for engineers is very high and there is a shortage. It's very lucrative as well. Not that many people want to go into engineering, because ';it's hard'; and it is easier to party and major in English (but they don't get jobs when they graduate).
Sometimes the industry is cyclical, mostly depending on the price oil. When oil is high, refineries and rigs are being built so more oil can be sold. Engineers are then in high demand.
With China and India's growth, their demand for oil should keep the price steady for several years to come.
Right now, new engineering graduates just out of college make about $57,000-$61,000.

Engineering isnt too difficult a job to get into if you have the right qualifications. Not sure on the salaries I am afreaid, but as they are off shore they are higher than they would be if you were working on the main land, due to the danger factor etc.

Please state which University in which country (UK or USA) and the qualifications needed to take the course i.e High School / A levelUniversities with an engineering degree in oil and gas?
Any university with a strong engineering program will support this but it's too long a list to have here. Pick an area of the the country and then look for engineering programs. In High School, you need to take 4 years of math and science. Whenever possible take advanced placement courses for college credit.

Well some schools have oil and gas or petroleum engineering. Other schools with a strong chemical engineering program will have a fuels option....so you'll be a chemical engineer, but your engineering electives will focus on fuels. You actually don't need that option, a regular chemical engineer does the trick, but it gives you a competitive edge. (i'm a chem engineer with a focus in bio and i'm getting requests to interview with oil companies). List is probably long.
U.S. we don't have A-level...from what i understand about A-level (which is limited)...A-level is probably what you want. Pretty much 4 years of science and 4 years of math....they'll want to start you off in calc....so you want to have at the very least taken pre calc.

Oil field engineer responsibilities?
I was wondering what kind of work I would be doing working as an oil field services engineer for a company like Schlumberger? I am really looking for a job where I will be able to work with a tight knit team to diagnose problems and create countermeasures while using my technical skills to acheive these. I wouldn't mind the crazy hours or physical demands as long as the work is interesting to me. I am about to earn my BSE in Mechanical Engineering.
Thanks!Oil field engineer responsibilities?
You would be doing highly repetitive work with little chance to do what you have described. You would have a better chance working for an oil company and even then you might not find what you have described.
I have seen very few tight knit teams in the real world of engineering.

Hi,I have heard that on a big ship an engineer goes inside the clylinder of a ships engine to oil and inspect.
Is this a fact or myth? My boss said he used to watch his grandfather do this in Muskegan Mich. Where can I find out more?? Thanks Jack W.Hi,I have heard that on a big ship an engineer goes inside the clylinder of a ships engine to oil and inspect.
Its a fact.

http://people.bath.ac.uk/ccsshb/12cyl/Hi,I have heard that on a big ship an engineer goes inside the clylinder of a ships engine to oil and inspect.
It is in fact... a fact. Very true...
The standing crew's joke which every engineer hears before stepping into one of those big round cylinders is ';that the last engineer to do that went stark raving crazy - trying to find a corner to pee in';.
The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C (as one example) is a turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine acclaimed to be the most powerful and most efficient ship-mover in the world today. It is built in Japan. They have 6 through 14 cylinder versions, all are inline engines. These engines were designed for very large container ships. The cylinder bore is just under 38鈥?in diameter and the stroke is just over 98鈥?
You can check it out your self and see pics at:
http://gcaptain.com/maritime/blog/tag/ch鈥?/a>
And... just for your information... (since I am a sternwheeler enthusiast, and in fact own one) Robert Fulton's sternwheeler ';New Orleans'; which launched in 1911 - was of course a ';steam engine'; powered vessel... it too, had a cylinder with a 36'; diameter.
He may have been referring to some of the reciprocating steam engines. There were catwalks that you would travel to oil bearings while the engine was running. They ran quite slowly, 50 to 90 rpm but it was amazing to be that close while it was turning. Loved the old steam days.
Yep. I have done many times. Dont really go in to oil unless changing out a piston, but do go in the inspect and take readings. Go into the crankcase as well.

Is there any courses or certificates for commissioning and start up engineer (chemical) in oil and gas field?
upgrade for chemical engineerIs there any courses or certificates for commissioning and start up engineer (chemical) in oil and gas field?
For starters, not all commissioning or start up engineers are chemical. Many are mechanical engineers. Much of the more difficult equipment involved in refineries and chemical plants are mechanical in nature therefore it is natural for mechanical engineers to be involved. I have even worked with at least one who was an electrical engineer.
Most of the ones I have worked with learned their craft by their experience working in operating plants and on construction assignments. I have never heard of any who were certified.

Oil and Gas engineer or Land surveyor ?
Hi, I'm looking for a more lucrative career from a financial adviser and have come up with these 2 options.
I'm wondering if anyone could give me any information about mainly what type of money each of these would expect with a few years experience and beyond, also does anyone know what the business potential is in such occupations.
Any info is greatly appreciated,
IkeOil and Gas engineer or Land surveyor ?
I am glad to help you. If I understand you correctly: you want to leave the finance industry and move to either be a land surveyor or an oil and gas. I'll move on to say you are a smart person because to me its seems like you have done some research and found that these two careers are always gonna be in demand.
my personal suggestion:
I am a pipeline engineer from a family of 4 engineers and a pharmacist....my younger sister graduated with masters degree in oil and gas engineering and is currently making $120,000 b/4 bonuses. I will ask that you look more into oil and gas becuase its one of the best paid careers today due to the everlasting demand for oil. The oil and gas industry will take you all over the world (if you wish to go) just like pipelines have taken me to all the continents on this planet. Oil and gas a very exciting world and you will discover that not only will you make a fortune there but you will build a network in that field within your first yrs of working that will beneft your family and friends who may want to follow behind.
A good recommendation is a school in europe:
UNIV OF ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND (good for masters degree- write down for future)

So, you think the President can engineer shortages and price hike of a world commodity?
Please provide some data to support this. I'd be very interested in seeing how you come to that conclusion.
How about the Putin, Iran and Chavez controlling the market by using oil as a weapon?
Therefore, the answer is No to your question.
Yes, and 9/11 was an inside job, landing on the moon never occured, JFK was assasinated by the CIA, and other well informed conclusions from the wise and centered among us.

I do not understand your question. Please expound.
Of course! He who controls the supply, controls the flow.

first of all, an oil tanker uses cheap, really cheap oil to power its light weight engines
muclear propulsion will use space that could carry cargo
historically there was a cargo ship called the NS Savannah built in the late '50s that did not demonstrate financial viability, look there first

Why do the dems think the american engineers are stupid and will spill oil?
But the other countries dont are they smarter or are they fooling americans, they are for the poor they say but why are they the ones making tons of money all in the pretense of an oil spill, I guess when people are paying 10 dollars a gal higher income tax, if you have a job, higher food they will get on tv and say we have tighten our belts again, they are good at thatWhy do the dems think the american engineers are stupid and will spill oil?
The old adage, Shiiiit Happens
The rest of you rant, is convoluted ---------- ';10 dollars a gal higher income tax';
Are you saying I can fill up a gas can and take it down to the IRS to pay off my tax bill? Something says I'd end up in jail as a possible terrorist.

.Why do the dems think the american engineers are stupid and will spill oil?
If you think only Democrats can see oil slicks in the water then Republicans are in worse shape than I thought.
All nations have had pipeline leaks and sabotage.
And the Alaskan pipe line and the Exxon Valdez have shown that accidents do happen. And they can be disastrous.
Democrats aren't the ones making money off oil, Bushs' whole family is in oil, as is Cheney. For that matter just making money isn't the problem, its excessive speculation in the market.
The idea that Democrats are in some way for the poor is too extreme, they only want to see that the poor aren't in danger of dying or infecting the rest of the population due to lack of health care, they have a minimum standard of living, they aren't necessarily for the poor.
Anyway you look at it, oil is a nonrenewable resource, its going to come to an end. We would be better served looking for a sustainable substitute than ruining the earth and its animals just so we can drive an SUV for another twenty years.
That's a certain arrogance of mankind to think they can destroy their environment endlessly and not pay in ways much worse than we see today, just because they can.
It has happened, but they can always clean it up. When they show oil covered animals on tv, you have to remember that with a short lifespan they might have died for any other reason and maybe not too long after the oil spill. We need oil not a wildlife preservation. After all, who is going to preserve us?
They want to present it as all or nothing. Drilling = oil spills and destroys wild life and the environment. That's ridiculous. It's just manipulation. I've heard politicians put their own spin on things too many times and they think that Americans are too stupid to know better.
What are you referring to? If we are talking about Alaska, then the problem is the massive amount of infrastructure that is required.
The only oil spills we have ever had, were from ';importing oil'; not drilling! It's those damn treehuggers that spin it...
Uh...because it's already happened hundreds of times?
The old adage, Shiiiit Happens
The rest of you rant, is convoluted ---------- ';10 dollars a gal higher income tax';

What is the scope of work of a chemical engineer in an oil industry?
In oil industry two main segments of operations exist ,first one is Upstream which is mainly concerned with the exploration, drilling, production and management of exploitation activities. The second one is known as Down stream which is mainly dealing with the refining, quality control and product development etc.
Luckily Chemical engineer has got crucial role to play in both the segments i.e. upstream as well as down stream. In up stream they can work for Drilling as drilling engineers or Mud engineers,Production engineers or Reservoir Engineers.
In Down stream it is the open field for chemical engineers they can work for almost all the activities.

Ship Engineer to Oil and Gas work?
Hi,
I am thinking ahead, but I am about do begin a cadetship with a cruse line company to become an Engineering Officer. I am wondering if down the line I will be able to try a change of work and gain employment in the Oil and Gas Industry?Ship Engineer to Oil and Gas work?
Yup, i'm currently based on a semi submersible drilling unit in Nigeria and at any one time we carry a total of 7 mechanics/engineers. That's a total of 14 employed on board (month on / month off with crews working back to back). About 50% are mechanics employed straight into the driling industry but the other 50% came from either Merchant Navy or the shipping industry. A Cadetship will give you a good solid Engineering background with the opportunity to advance ultimately to the rank of Chief Engineer. Our Engineers onboard are currently earning around 80K per annum with bonuses and the Chief Engineer probably about 100K. Also with the oil industry booming just now and most drilling companies building many new drillships, semis and jackups there is lots of work out there.paper mask

What is the raw source of Canola Oil? Is it the genetically engineered Rapeseed ?
Expert advice needed Please. What is the raw source of Canola Oil? Is it the genetically engineered Rapeseed ?
Yes it is. And who knows the long-term effects of taking it? I'll stick with my olive oil. What is the raw source of Canola Oil? Is it the genetically engineered Rapeseed ?
It is rapeseed oil and the marketing types in the U.S. decided that ';Canola'; would be a more appealing name than ';rapeseed';.
Canola oil is not genetically engineered - it was bred to have some desirable characteristics, but that was done using the same breeding techniques that we've used for millenia. And rapeseed has been used in cooking for nearly as long.

How long will the alleged Obama engineered US economic recovery last with Oil Companies hosing consumers again?
Do you reallly believe Obama the loser wants any economic recovery for America? This loser claims he will get America out of debt by BORROWING trillions of dollars from a communist country (China) and then totally wasting the money on earmarks and pork project, remember Obama the loser said that his stimulus package would save and/or create 3.5 million jobs and then about a month ago he said that he miscalculated and it is now only 2.5 million jobs, well all that money is gone and unemployment is still rising, so where are the jobs? OBAMA THE LOSER LIED PLAIN AND SIMPLE, and now the taxpayers are stuck with the biggest debt in American History which was created in the last 100 days. Thank you Obama bots for totally wasting your votes on Obama the Loser and for the good of America, Obama the loser needs to resign NOW!How long will the alleged Obama engineered US economic recovery last with Oil Companies hosing consumers again?
You do realize that capitalist oil companies only control 18% of the oil worldwide and the rest has been nationalized, right?
Gasoline prices were recently at unprecedented lows - no profits, no oil, no western civilization, new dark age. They had to go up some.
The ';recovery'; would have failed regardless. Government stimulation used to be believed to help in recessions (oh, some 30 years ago) but has been proven to be a short term fix that looks good at first but then leads to massive inflation that sinks the economy worse. Using it is pure populism/short-term thinking. Tax cuts do work and have resulted in higher government income when passed (like the Bush tax cut for everyone) but unfortunately, Congress has the purse strings and tends to approve higher Presidential budgets, more pork, and basically spends the increased income and then some. Happens every time. Term limits would greatly damper this sort of behavior but even people elected to national office in one state should be easily fireable by the board of directors (the people).
It is very likely, good Soros-backed socialist that he is, that Obama will at least attempt to nationalize the oil companies despite documented proof that their production and exploration (not to mention level of technology) drop precipitously after being nationalized and stay there. The people and their pain do not matter to Obama - only the narrow ideal that he lives for does. How long will the alleged Obama engineered US economic recovery last with Oil Companies hosing consumers again?
No time to get on the price gouging band wagon like the beginning of the summer driving season. There is no economic recovery to damage though, because the economy isn't recovering! This will just make it worse. Will the Republicans still espouse Capitalism and the supposed free market when oil companies again post record profits amidst the worst economic crisis decades?
wow as an owner of a small oil co. yes i have producing wells, it coast me $4,000,000. just to drill and guss what most of the time it is a dry hole, with obama taking away tax advantages i will no longer be drilling, the major oil will not drill in this country, taking away jobs, and making us more dependent on foreign oil, and by the way exxon is owned by pension funds, that would be teachers, Police, fireman, and Mike moore, and you might own a major oil co check your ira
Well it appears we may be bottoming, but who knows? One thing we don't need is high gas prices, they are now around $2.20 per gallon here in Texas and people are starting to worry, lets just hope they go back down before it stalls the economy.
Look Pal. Liberals told us the the big money made by oil companies was a Bush secret deal. I wonder where those liberals are now???
if the hosing goes to $5 a gallon this summer prepare for the depression

How could i work in nigeria as a project engineer in oil company ?
i need sites concerned with these jobs ( project engineers , construction engineer , piping engineer)How could i work in nigeria as a project engineer in oil company ?
Do you have the education required to be a project engineer?
If so then you can try searching on rigzone.com. This is a site about the petroleum industry - mostly drilling and production. There is a ';Careers'; section. You can search for jobs and post your resume/CV so recruiters can contact you with job opportunities. The site is free to use.
You can also check the news to find out what companies have projects in Nigeria and contact those companies to inquire about job opportunities.
Due to the political and social unrest in West Africa many companies are offering substantial compensation to people willing to work in the area. How could i work in nigeria as a project engineer in oil company ?
hi
well, it is not the best season to get hired over there, you know? never the kidnapping has been that high...
anyway your courage should be paid well; a part for example monster.com, i would simple search on the net whose is operating there and contact them directly (at their home office AND locally); also check all those subcontractor companies from all over the world and contact them directly, sending a resume/cv and the your motivation (for ex no family etc), why you are ready to work in a high risk environment
...in alternative you may go also in Iraq (where this month they start to make pieces of the petrol cake), the pay may be even higher for similar risk level (depends where you work);
good luck
ciao
ps: for example the italian site of eni/agip and impregilo in nigeria are stopped at the moment and they are calling back home their people...
I just typed ';engineering jobs international'; into the search engine and got all kinds of sites. Give it a try....

I'd hit Halliburton, Oceaneering, and Mustang Engineering.

Of the two options, which type of engineer is most likely to work at an oil/gas refinery?
The two options I'm giving are either chemical or petroleum engineer. From my research it appears petroleum engineers are primarily trained to work in the field, where the products is extracted. It also seems chemical engineers are more likely to be the ones to work at a refinery, separating the products. I guess I am just curious as to whether or not petroleum engineers have a place at refineries and if so what is there role?Of the two options, which type of engineer is most likely to work at an oil/gas refinery?
Petroleum engineers tend to work in the Exploration and Production end of the business whereas chemical engineers can work in either.
In terms of percentage, there are more mechanical and electrical engineers than petroleum or chemical engineers in either end of the business. Of the two options, which type of engineer is most likely to work at an oil/gas refinery?
I would say most likely a Chemical Engineer would be found at the refineries. Most of the Petroleum Engineers I know work in the field and develop the most efficient and cleanest ways to extract the oil. Refining is a chemical process and a Petroleum engineer will learn about the refining process but most likely to be found in the field. Then again if your passion is in the refineries but feel as if you'd prefer the petroleum schooling chances are you'd find a job where you want. The nice part about that is you would understand the whole start to finish process. Hope this helps.
Chemical engineers usually work in the labs in a refinery checking product streams etc., if they work in a refinery at all.
The ones working the refinery are usually Mechanical, Control, and Electrical engineers.

Does it seem like all car engineers figure the location for the oil filter as the last thing on their designs?
They seem to cramp them into the strangest places-
What do you think ?Does it seem like all car engineers figure the location for the oil filter as the last thing on their designs?
Definitely... Because it's a design that can virtually be placed anywhere... it's a design that doesnt require to be efficient, unlike the other parts of the car...Does it seem like all car engineers figure the location for the oil filter as the last thing on their designs?
actually I think engineers never work on anything they design .If they did i think they would change a lot of things.
Car dealers want you to bring the vehicle in for the service. They don't want the customer to do the work so there put in places that most people don't want to bother with. God Bless
yep back in the day you just open the hood and you could see it

For civil Engineer, there is good scope in Oil Refinery pipe line construction?
Dear Friends, i am civil engineer staying in chennai, i got an offer to Kuwait. Its a Oil refinery pipe line construction company. Is there good scope for such type of construction further? How will be in india for such construction?
Regarding salary and other facility are good from the company.
Shall i accept this offer or not?For civil Engineer, there is good scope in Oil Refinery pipe line construction?
Take it. Cross country pipelines are civil projects more than anything. Sure, there's a pipe, but there's a hell of a lot of earth getting moved, and maybe even some cement for your to play with.

Does anyone know how much a chemical engineer that works for Chevron oil would make in a yearly pay?
If you know the answer, please, let me know. I am curious in majoring in Chemical engineering and I need to know how much I would be making.Does anyone know how much a chemical engineer that works for Chevron oil would make in a yearly pay?
This is not an easy question to answer. Tell you why. Read on....
How much? That depends. Just a raw BS degree won't get you too far. Also that depends on what you can do. How valuable you are to the company etcetera.
If you are a BS, new grad, expect to earn about $35 K. MS = $45 Ph.D in an R%26amp;D can hope to earn about $55-60; Add an MBA with any of the above, you will earn an additional $10 to $15; additional years of experience will earn more but what you did in your previous job and what the last employers thought of your work will earn additional $$s. How you fit in the current requirement is #1 in their offer of money.
The speed with which you rise in the ranks, (hence your income) is directly proportional to your educational qualifications and MEANINGFUL experience.
With oil companies, the benefits are good. Therefore, money alone is not always that important. The future will look bright. You will have excellent oppt'ys if you ever leave Chevron. Stock options are good.
So many factors are involved. The HR manager when interviewing you has an invisible sign that says ';....so, what are you bringing to the table.......?'; Try and answer that by putting their hat on.Does anyone know how much a chemical engineer that works for Chevron oil would make in a yearly pay?
I am not positive about Chevron but I myself am getting into the business side of the environmental industry and I know there is a lot of money to be made. Beyond oil there is a growing industry to environmental services because of the increasingly strict laws on businesses who create waste.
I wouldn't suggest going into engineering just for the money. If you have a masters in engineering then you're not going to have to worry about making money. But it's always better to have a job you love. Just find a field you enjoy working in and it will be worth more to you than than you would get from trying to make the most money.
but if you're just curious as to what chemical engineers make than you can expect to start making 50,000 to 70,000 anything more would be rather rare for a starting salary.
depends on what level you reach. bs, ms ,phd. it could be from 35 -200 k depending on their need and your education AND experience. a bs with no indusrtrial experience will earn less then a nbs with five years in the plant environment where profit motivates the company to make things happen fast, rather than slow. example, using heat and pressure to drive the manufacture of a ketone in a wet environment.
I'm not sure. Have you checked salary.com ?
