It is rapeseed oil and the marketing types in the U.S. decided that ';Canola'; would be a more appealing name than ';rapeseed';.
Canola oil is not genetically engineered - it was bred to have some desirable characteristics, but that was done using the same breeding techniques that we've used for millenia. And rapeseed has been used in cooking for nearly as long.
