What is wireline engineering engineering in oil?

its a field jobWhat is wireline engineering engineering in oil?
first you must understand what wireline is. wireline is a means of lowering various kinds of tools town the bore of a well. generally it uses a single strand of very high strength plow steel or nickel/cobalt alloy wire. But stranded wire and even stranded wire wound over electrical wire (e-line) can be used depending on the operations to be performed. it is lowered though a ';grease fitting'; which uses a combination of rubber packing glands and very high viscosity grease pumped into a chamber between the packing glands to maintain a pressure seal. I have even worked on systems in which e-line is put through coiled tubing in order to be able to negotiate long horizontal sections.

If you don't know what it is, unless the employer is willing to train you, don't take the job. If the employer IS willing to train you, within a couple years you can be making some really good money. What is wireline engineering engineering in oil?
There are some good points in that answer but it really doesn't explain much. Wireline engineers do a geological survey of the various formations of intrest. The reading help to determine the porosity and permiability of the formations. Report Abuse
